you should change ‘heavy’ to trash – otherwise you’re missing out on terrific albums which were way more influential and more interesting than some of these. thanks for the recs though, more stuff to listen to

You really can’t go wrong with any of the albums listed. Funny you should mention Whiplash as I often use “Power Thrashing Death” to get me going when I’m lacking energy

I chose “Peace Sells” due to the amazing Chris Poland solos. He was an unbelievable player. “Ride…” was a huge change from “Kill ‘em All” and they got everything right on “Master”. “To Mega Therion” was a devastating testament to what the Frost was capable of doing and it floored me…

I would have these as #11 – 15:

11 – Whiplash “Power and Pain”
12 – Exodus – “Bonded by Blood”
13 – Sepultura- “Beneath the Remains”
14 – Sodom – “Persecution Mania”
15 – Manowar – “Battle Hymns”

I think any list not based on sales is based on personal preference and, in this case, relevance. Your list is excellent. I debated over “Peace Sells” and “Rust in Peace” and went with Rust due to the guitar work which separates itself from just about any album of that era.

Clearly “Master of Puppets” is Metallica’s best album (I actually saw them on tour back at the old Felt Forum in NYC supporting that album) but “Ride the Lightning” really kicked the Thrash genre up a notch.

I had Heavy Metal Maniac #13 on my list (after Manowar’s “Battle Hymns” and Exodus’ “Bonded by Blood”).

Shockingly my Death/Thrash Metal resume is thin. Love Ride the Lightning. I am partial to Kill Em All and I love Anthrax’s Among the Living. I know most of the bands though and I am going to check out the list then report back!
