This is such an amazing post! Thank you for sharing all of the photos and a glimpse into your previous life. I grew up in suburban northern CA, about as opposite of your experience as possible. All I can think is that you must have so many stories to pull from.

I love the pics of you with your siblings. I have 6 children, and I hope they enjoy each other as much as you all seem to when they grow up.

I never really go “home”. My Mom moved after my Dad died in ’90. But I’m really looking forward to taking a trip back to Nashville, where I went to college – hopefully this year.

Growing us in the Bronx, at least in my case, is something I’ll always be proud of and carry in my heart. Wouldn’t be this warm, lovable person had I grown up any place else

I really just got lucky. The good Lord must have been listening to my mother’s prayers every night and morning. None of us seven ever got arrested, addicted to drugs, shot, stabbed or suffer any of the pitfalls that an inner-city upbringing can bring about.

Brooklyn kid here…the photos of the apartment building and courtyards could easily have been from my block in Crown Heights. The wonderful memories of playing hopscotch and riding my bike on the sidewalks will never leave me. I left Brooklyn as a young adult, but still visit my Mom there every week. You probably feel as I do about keeping the Bronx in your heart always; I still consider myself a Brooklyn girl!
