Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart: 2026 Cor Unum Awards

by Dan Perez

Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart is the only Catholic, all-girls Montessori-3 through Grade 12 college preparatory school in Florida. They are part of an international network of Sacred Heart schools whose mission is to educate women leaders in the Sacred Heart tradition that fosters growth in an active faith in God, intellectual values, and a commitment to social awareness in an environment of wise freedom and community.

They’ve also been a client of mine for several years. Working closely with the school’s Director of Communications Laura Cirera, as well as Head of School Heather Gillingham-Rivas (a graduate of Carrollton in ’94), and President Patrick J. Coyle, I’ve enjoyed producing numerous works through the years – from fundraising videos, testimonials, career opportunities and their Founder’s Welcome Reception honoring Carrollton’s Cor Unum Award Recipients.

The Cor Unum Award (Latin phrase that means “one heart”) recognizes individuals whose unwavering commitment to charitable endeavors echoes the core values of Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart. And this year’s video was another highly enjoyable project. The school has kindly allowed me to share it here. Behold…

Since 1800, when St. Madeleine Sophie Barat founded the Society of the Sacred Heart in France, Sacred Heart educators have carried out her vision of educational excellence. Today, the Network of Sacred Heart schools is an association of 25 Catholic schools across the United States and Canada, and nearly 160 schools internationally.

At the core of Sacred Heart education are the Goals and Criteria. They form the moral compass that influence the choices made within the community, instilling in their students to draw upon these values during their schools days, and ultimately guiding Carrollton graduates to become women of conviction, courage, and confidence.

Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart in Miami dates back to November 1, 1961, when the City Commissioners unanimously agreed that the El Jardin estate on Main Highway could become the site of school. Classes opened in El Jardin in January of the following year. The school now boasts two complete campuses, Barat and Duchesne. The second campus was acquired in 1991.

You can view a video with a detailed history of the school in this video I produced for them back in 2022
