This week, we bring you the benefits of smoking Camel cigarettes. Well, not really but yeah, really. You don’t see a whole lot of advertisements that promote smoking these days but several decades ago, marketers for the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company would pull out all the stops to promote the “benefits” of smoking – from claims that it helps digestion and steadies your nerves to good old peer pressure (“Everywhere You Go They’re Smoking Camels”), to using actors, “distinguished women”, and even athletes(!) to make smoking cigarettes acceptable, cool even.
The advertisements range from outrageous to downright hilarious. I thought they’d make for a good laugh or at least a smile. Enjoy. Oh, and don’t smoke, OK? Thanks.
