Filmmakers see the world a bit differently than others. A filmmaker’s eyes are a camera that’s always recording. There are times, however, when a filmmaker needs to know when to put his “camera” on standby and just enjoy the moment. A good example would be while on vacation with his family at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. As this short film illustrates, having a father and/or husband who happens to be an overzealous filmmaker (an award-winning documentary filmmaker, in this particular case) can tear a family apart…

You are awesome! I have a couple of ideas for documentaries. They may not make good documentaries but maybe books. I’m thinking tapping into the whole blogging phenom. Looking into the lives of a few bloggers. As you know, sometimes the most poignant stories come from the most ordinary of people.
That’s the beauty of documentary film: highlighting the poignant stories from “ordinary” people. I’m thinking of doing something here in South Florida featuring kickass women. May get started on it early 2012.
Nice to see you here 🙂
LOVE the first two “looks” your wife and daughter give you! Wow, your daughter looks sooooo much like her mom (thank God)! Maybe the Alfred Hitchcock approach to your “talent” might be rethought?
I think your dog should talk!
Fortunately, she got my brains (don’t tell my wife I said that!)
Thanks for watching and sharing 🙂
Brilliant.
Very clever, very funny.
That was so awesome! Seriously dig your daughter! My girls would share the same thoughts as yours except my time is spent with a still camera! LOL Love that the family agreed to participate!
They agreed to participate but arms had to be twisted and money paid out!
Glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Love it. Look forward to the sequel.
You might be but my wife and daughter certainly aren’t 🙂
oh…I forgot to mention that this film reminded me of this other short by jay rosenblatt. http://www.jayrosenblattfilms.com/i_used_to_be_a_filmmaker.php
hahaha! too funny! i love it. um, i’m going to need you to make a documentary of our blogger meet up in march. so………….
and you’re right, an artists mind never rests!! that’s why i got these bags under my eyes.
Glad you got a chuckle out of it (and one of the “good” tears). Hope all is getting better in your world 🙂
oh and p.s. i LOVE the ending. great idea. making me all teary up in here.
I know just who would love this: @anneflournoy > Sending it to her now.
Ha! I loved it!! I think that’s so cool that your family played along. They were playing along… right? 😉
Uh…I think so. Hmmm.
I adore you and your family SO much!! “Dad, its a flipcam…” hahaha
We try to be as cool as we can (thanks!)
Nice to see you on this side of the tracks 🙂
“Honey, you’re really becoming annoying”
Apparently, my dad could have been award-winning too (;-D) but in Super-8 …
You Rock, Annoying Honey! Love it <3
You see, it’s not only on twitter that I annoy people 🙂
Hugs…
Dan, very nice sir and I love the annoying factor 🙂
I usually end up wishing I had done more filming and taking snapshots. I try my best, but I sometimes need to remind myself to capture it.
The skipping was priceless! My family feels the same about my blog and other writing projects. Every single time we do something together one of them says, “You’re not going to write about this ARE you?” 🙂
Clearly your wife and daughter were born to be in films! You guys are a riot!
That’s funny –>> You see, it’s not only on twitter that I annoy people 🙂 It all makes sense now….
I was just getting ready to send a flaming post when i FINALLY saw Buddy in the last few seconds – i think he deserved a bigger role but realize he is a humble guy and will to give the rest of the family their airtime. This was entertaining 😉
Funny, you should mention Buddy. I had already completed the edit and rendered the video. After watching it, I realized there would most likely be someone who’d be upset that there was no shot of Buddy in the video so I went back and added in Buddy’s shot.
I guess I know my audience, yes 😉
Love that! Your family cracks me up — I know it can’t be easy living with a creative person. Fortunately for us creative people, we don’t have to deal with it. 😉
Us creative people just make everyone else nuts, yes? Works for me 🙂
Thanks for spending a few minutes with my wacky family…
Thank you – glad you enjoy my work 🙂
Dude, New Zealand won’t let me watch your video. I’m disappointed. And a bit drunk. My German friend ratarsed me up on Caipirinahs tonight. And I’m home before midnight, on the couch with a blankie reading your blog. You should adopt me. I have a dance for every occasion & can running fuck kick a front door of its hinges ON DEMAND. Oh & I can sing 😉
Glad you’re home safe where you can’t do yourself (or others) any harm. There are far worse things you can be doing than being snug under a blankie reading my blog. You can be running fuck kicking a front door of its hinges, for example. Not as good.
Nice to see you here 🙂
Oh my God, I do this to my kids… and I’m not even an “award-winning filmmaker”… yet. 😉 Your family looks like a lot of fun. I love how even the dog plays along. 🙂
No video hits the street unless Buddy makes an appearance – that’s the rule.
Nice to see you on this side of the tracks 🙂
He deserved a bigger role but realize he is a humble guy and
will to give the rest of the family their airtime. This was
entertaining and funny.keep it up your inovative film making.
