When her mother was still 11 weeks pregnant with her, Gracie was diagnosed with Down syndrome. Soon after, doctors discovered something else – she also had a complex congenital heart defect that would require surgery shortly after birth. Gracie’s parents immediately took to the internet and began researching the top pediatric heart surgeons in the country and one name kept coming up – Dr. Redmond Burke, Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at Miami Children’s Hospital.
