Couldn’t be happier to announce that my award-winning short documentary film, GRAFSTRACT: The Bronx Street Art Renaissance has been named an official selection of the 12th edition of the Bronx International Film Festival.
Why couldn’t we be happier? Well, as you probably already figured out, our film was shot in the Bronx and after screening at film festivals in Albania, Mexico, Sweden, India, Chile, Spain and Turkey as well as Los Angeles and Corpus Christi, Texas – the film will finally screen in the borough where it was conceived and created (and where I was born and raised). Like I said, I couldn’t be happier (OK, well if somebody handed me a check for 5 million dollars or offered me an all-expenses paid trip around the world or if Martin Scorsese wanted to have dinner with me and let me pick his brain – then I’d probably be happier but you get the point).
The mission of The Bronx International Film Festival is to celebrate the history of film in The Bronx by showcasing promising filmmakers while promoting The Bronx as a cultural destination and Bronx venues, like Lehman Stages, as prominent New York performance spaces.
‘GRAFSTRACT: The Bronx Street Art Renaissance’ is a short documentary film shot in the Bronx in the summer of 2014 that I also produced, directed, shot & edited. The film tells the story of artist SinXero (who is also the film’s co-producer) and his mission to beautify the Bronx with the help of some of the world’s top street artists via his TAG Public Arts Project.
The film features old-school Bronx graffiti/street artists James “Sexer” Rodriguez and Luis “Zimad” Lamboy as well as the Baltimore based duo of Billy Mode and Chris Stain. The film also features legendary NYC graffiti artist John “Crash” Matos, who curated the iconic exhibition “Graffiti Art Success for America” at Fashion MODA in 1980. Here’s the trailer…

I hope to see my family and friends at the screening as I will most certainly be in attendance. The screening date will be Sunday, January 24 at 5:00pm [SHARP] at The Studio Theatre on 250 Bedford Park Blvd., Bronx, NY 10468.
See you there, yes?
