Happy to announce that my award-winning short documentary film Angels with Shoes has been named an official selection of the second edition of Festival Internacional de Cortometrajes y Arte sobre Enfermedades FICAE [Diseases International Short Film and Arts Festival]. Our film was one of 107 films selected from over 2700 submissions to the festival which will take place in Valencia, Spain from March 2-5.
The Festival’s goal is to promote awareness and social consciousness of disease as a life process; helping to remove the burden of stigma endured by the sufferers of many diseases. Furthermore, this Festival seeks to stimulate artistic audiovisual creation, in order to make these health conditions visible on a larger scale and to share knowledge about these diseases with the world.
‘Angels with Shoes’ tells the story of a living kidney donation between two cousins from Puerto Rico, Yaredly and Kiara (the donor). The transplant operation took place in Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and leads up to the the celebration of the one-year anniversary of the transplant. The film has won the “Best International Short” and “Audience Choice” awards at the Rincón International Film Festival and “Best Documentary” award at Film Miami Fest. The film has also screened at film festivals in Mexico, Spain and India.
Our film will screen on Thursday, March 3 at the Universitat Politècnica de València during the 10am-2pm block of films. We couldn’t be happier that our story of love, life and living donation will be a part of this growing film festival and continue to reach an international audience…
