Happy to announce that my award-winning documentary short, Angels with Shoes has been named an official selection of the Smita Patil Documentary and Short Film Festival in Pune, India. The screening of the selected films will be on December 12th & 13th 2015 (times TBA) at S.M Joshi Auditorium Pune. You can find a complete list of selected films HERE.
The festival, now in its 4th edition, is named after Smita Patil, an Indian actress of film, television and theatre who was regarded among the finest actresses of her times. Patil was deeply committed to the advancement of women’s issues, and gave her endorsement to films which sought to explore the role of women in traditional Indian society. She died on December 13, 1986 at the age of 31 due to childbirth complications.
The focus of the film festival was to seek compelling, enigmatic and powerful cinematic narratives which explore human nature, relationships, psychology and living. Moreover, all the proceeds of the festival will go to Arogya Sena’s Disaster Relief Management Fund, a national organization working for disaster medical relief, training and public health rights. “Angels with Shoes” tells the story of a living kidney donation between two cousins from Puerto Rico, Yaredly and Kiara (the donor). The transplant operation took place in Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami and leads up to the the celebration of the one-year anniversary of the transplant. The film has won the “Best International Short” and “Audience Choice” awards at the Rincón International Film Festival and “Best Documentary” award at Film Miami Fest. The film has also screened at film festivals in Mexico and Spain.
We couldn’t be happier that our story of love, life and living donation will be a part of this growing film festival and continue to reach an international audience…
