REBUILD.US | A Look Back at Hurricane Fiona

REBUILD.US are philanthropic disaster response professionals dedicated to building a new disaster relief system ready to meet the climate reality of 2025 and beyond. The organization directs millions of dollars to the most effective local organizations on the ground in areas hit by climate disasters – delivering much-needed funds to experienced, local leaders and organizations to immediately help people in need while helping communities recover and build solutions for a better future.

When Hurricane Fiona ravaged Puerto Rico in 2022, community-led groups who were already on the ground took action – providing immediate aid to the hardest hit areas. REBUILD.US stepped in, partnering with local organizations like HASER, Taller Salud and the Maria Fund, to make sure emergency aid and long-term recovery funds went directly to the people doing the work.

Last summer, I was contracted to produce a video that told the story about the impact REBUILD.US made during one of the deadliest hurricanes to ever hit Puerto Rico. Working with producer Serena Perez from REBUILD.US, we traveled to San Juan, Loíza and Ponce to get the story behind the recovery from some of the organizations who were thrust into the role of first-responders.

Here’s the video…

Special Thanks to the good folks at Taller Salud for the remarkable hurricane relief video they shot and made available to us.
