“The Motivator: The Business Of Selling Hope” is an award-winning documentary film that offers a revealing behind-the-scenes look at the business of being a motivational speaker. The film, which marked the directorial debut of South Florida filmmaker Dan Perez, documents a weekend in the life of international motivational speaker Victor Antonio as he travels from his home in Georgia to deliver a keynote in front of 2500 guests at a national conference in Philadelphia.
Along the way, Victor shares his candid (and often hilarious) observations on being a professional speaker and the billion dollar self-improvement industry. Moreover, he tells how he managed to escape the hardships of “food stamps, government cheese & powdered milk” (as Victor puts it) in one of Chicago’s toughest neighborhoods to become one of the top speakers in the business.
The film premiered at the 2008 Rincon International Film Festival where it won the “Director’s Choice” award. The film was also an official selection of the 2008 Orlando Hispanic Film Festival and the 2009 Sunscreen Film Festival (voted one of the Top 25 “Coolest Film Festivals” by MovieMaker Magazine).

This is a cool video – always like to hear the real life stories. What resonated with me was that no one in his family has heard him speak – I can relate – same here. Thanks for posting.
Great stuff!!! I loved it!!
Thanks for sharing this. As an aspiring speaker, it is great to see what the life is like. Even for those of us who sit in the audience, which is everyone else at one point or another, it is great to see the whole story.
