Congenital heart disorders occur in approximately eight out of every 1,000 newborns. These disorders can range from mild to severe, with two to three babies in 1,000 displaying signs of a heart defect requiring medical intervention.
The Heart Program at Miami Children’s Hospital is a world leader in pediatric cardiology and the care of children with congenital heart disorders and serves as a beacon to families confronting the reality of a child or newborn with a heart defect.
The hospital contracted me to help put together an informative video on what parents (and children) can expect when they bring in their child for heart surgery. The video takes you from the initial meeting with Redmond P. Burke, Director of Cardiovascular Surgery and a nationally recognized pioneer in pediatric cardiac surgery, all the way to when your child arrives in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit right after surgery.
It’s a tough road to travel when your child needs heart surgery and with this video, Miami Children’s Hospital has tried to make that road just a bit less bumpy. Watch it and feel free to share…
