Camp for Ventilation Assisted Children: “Pool Day” (In Pictures)

by Dan Perez

Here’s the fourth in a series of posts that look back on the remarkable week that was at VACC Camp, a free week-long overnight camp for ventilation assisted children hosted each spring by Miami Children’s Hospital (now Nicklaus Children’s Hospital).

“Pool Day” at VACC Camp takes place at the A.D. Barnes Park in Miami and for many of these ventilator dependent children, it’s one of the few times a year (or only time) that they’re able to get into a pool. It’s a special day and the many smiles on the faces of these campers tells the full story. I was ready with my Panasonic Lumix GH2 and DiCAPac waterproof case.

Enjoy the pics – at the very end, there’s a video I shot on “Pool Day” back in 2012…

Here’s my daughter (second from right) and her fellow volunteers, submerged. My daughter completed her second stint as a full-time volunteer at the camp this year. And yeah, I’m pretty damn proud about that…
